​Care Staff

Our care staff is chosen for their experience and reliability. The majority of them have been working in this field for many years and have proven their worth. All carers must have worked in either a hospital, nursing/residential home or with another agency and it is from these institutions that we apply for two references.

All staff is expected to attend training days in various aspects of care work and additional training is often carried out by the Agency. Mandatory training includes First Aid, Infection Control, Food Handling and Hygiene and  Manual Handling whilst additional training may cover Parkinson’s disease and Dementia. No carer is ever placed
in a position beyond her capabilities and the Agency offers full support both day and night.

Carers do not wear uniform unless asked to do so but they do carry identification badges with them. Each carer is allocated with a relief carer so continuity of care, whilst not guaranteed, is our aim.

Like our trained staff, the carers follow care plans set up by the Agency, keep records and report back to the Agency on a regular basis.

 
Carers are not nurses. There are strict guidelines as to what tasks they are allowed to perform. However, they have their own set of skills and, with the back up of the Agency, they are an ideal choice for those clients who do not require full nursing care.



Areas of work covered by carers

• Assistance with personal hygiene (including bed baths, bath and shower.)

• Care of hair and nails (not toe nails)

• Oral hygiene

• Preparation of meals and assistance with feeding

• Light housework and shopping

• Administration of medication from dossett box

• Mobilisation – if authorized by doctor or physiotherapist

• Use of hoists and lifting aids

• Passive exercises – if demonstrated by a physiotherapist

• Organising repeat prescriptions for medication

• Organising hospital and doctors’ appointments
